Finally, I haven't played with it, but the Revengeance mod (which does rebalancing and polish) is worth mentioning. I still think it is worth playing, just to experience the changes in the formula. unskippable cutscenes, balance issues, sporadic crashes), which I think makes it the weakest game of the series. There were other smaller changes as well. I liked this change, and in fact think the developers should have gone further with it (say, tower-specific upgrades, or mutually exclusive towers). Instead of essentially having all towers available at all times, now you have to pick 5 tower types out of the available 20, and play an entire level with that selection.
